Tsukuba City is located 50 km from Tokyo, just 45 minutes away via the Tsukuba
Express line. The topography is relatively flat and is adorned with lush nature, including
Mt. Tsukuba, which reaches an altitude of 877 m, and Lake Kasumigaura, the second-
largest lake in Japan since ancient times. It is said to have been inhabited for 40,000
years. 
The climate remains relatively warm throughout the year, creating a very comfortable
environment. The average annual temperature is 14.9 degrees Celsius, with snowfall
occurring about 2 to 3 times a year. The total area is 283.72 square kilometers, and the
population is 255,033 (as of December 2023).
Tsukuba City has developed into a research and science hub, famous for its numerous
research facilities, universities, and international conferences. Many foreigners visit and
reside there, with supermarkets and hospitals available in each area, ensuring no

issues with day-to-day life. The primary challenge lies in cultural differences and
communication. Japanese people are generally mild-mannered and foster a culture of
helping one another, but many do not speak English, and their websites and pamphlets
are often only available in Japanese. Finding someone who can assist you in times of
